Privacy Policy
Last updated: 19 June 2026
KNOMI GROUP PTY LTD (ABN 28 699 108 953) ("Knomi", "we", "us", "our") provides digital safety and incident-response services to families in Australia. We take the privacy of the people who trust us seriously — protecting them is the whole point of what we do.
This policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use and protect it, and the choices and rights you have. It applies to our website, apps, and services. By using Knomi, you agree to this policy.
We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
1. The information we collect
Depending on how you use Knomi, we may collect:
- Account information — your name, email address, phone number, and login credentials.
- Family member information — details of family members you add to a plan, which may include children. You confirm you are the parent or guardian and have authority to provide this information.
- Payment information — billing details, processed securely by our third-party payment provider. We do not store full card numbers.
- Monitoring data — the email addresses, phone numbers, or other identifiers you ask us to monitor for data breaches or dark-web exposure.
- Scam-checker submissions — messages, links, or numbers you submit to our free tools.
- Incident evidence — information you provide or that we capture when responding to an incident. This can include screenshots, messages, images, account details, and identity documents. Some of this is sensitive information, and we treat it with extra care (see Section 5).
- Support communications — records of your contact with our team.
- Technical and usage data — device, browser, IP address, and how you interact with our service, collected automatically (see Section 9).
2. How we collect it
We collect information directly from you, automatically as you use our service, and from trusted third-party sources (such as breach-data and threat-intelligence providers) used to power monitoring features.
3. Why we use your information
We use your information to:
- Provide monitoring, scam-checking, incident response, and evidence-preservation services.
- Triage incidents, secure accounts, and prepare evidence packs for eSafety, police, or schools — at your direction.
- Communicate with you about your account, alerts, and incidents.
- Process payments and manage your membership.
- Improve and secure our service.
- Meet our legal and regulatory obligations.
4. The basis on which we handle your information
We handle your information with your consent and as needed to provide the services you've asked for. For sensitive information, we rely on your express consent, which you can withdraw at any time (though this may limit our ability to help you).
5. Sensitive information and incident evidence
Some incident evidence is highly sensitive. We collect and use it only to help you respond to your incident, preserve it securely, and — where you direct us — share it with the right authorities. We do not use evidence for any other purpose. You can ask us to delete evidence at any time, subject to any legal obligation to retain it.
6. Children's information
Knomi is purchased and managed by adults. We do not knowingly allow people under 18 to create their own accounts. Where a plan covers a child, the managing parent or guardian provides and controls that information. When supporting a child through an incident, we always work to connect them with a trusted adult and the appropriate authorities.
7. When we share your information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only:
- With service providers who help us operate Knomi (for example, hosting, payment processing, and breach-data providers), under contracts that require them to protect it.
- With trusted partners, such as cyber-insurance, legal, identity-recovery, and forensics specialists — only when you ask us to refer you. Referral fees may apply, and we'll tell you when they do.
- With authorities — including eSafety, police, and platforms — at your direction or where required by law.
- Where legally required, such as to comply with a court order or legal obligation.
8. Where your information is stored
We store your information on servers located in Australia. Some service providers we rely on — such as our payment processor and analytics provider — may process limited data overseas (including in the United States). Where this occurs, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information is handled consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles.
9. Cookies and analytics
We use cookies and similar technologies to keep the site working, remember your preferences, and understand how it's used. We use Google Analytics to help us understand site usage; this involves sending limited technical data to Google, which may process it overseas. You can control cookies through your browser settings.
10. How we protect your information
Your data and evidence are encrypted in transit and at rest, stored securely, and access is restricted to authorised personnel on a need-to-know basis. While no system is perfectly secure, protecting your information is central to everything we do.
11. Data breaches
If a data breach occurs that is likely to cause serious harm, we will notify affected individuals and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) in line with the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.
12. How long we keep your information
We keep your information only as long as needed to provide our services, meet legal obligations, and resolve disputes. Incident evidence is retained for the period needed to support your case and any reporting, then securely deleted on your request or when no longer required. When you cancel, we delete or de-identify your information unless we're legally required to keep it.
13. Your rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct information that is inaccurate or out of date.
- Withdraw consent or ask us to delete information, subject to legal limits.
- Complain if you believe we've mishandled your information.
To exercise any of these, contact our Privacy Officer (Section 15). If you're not satisfied with our response, you can contact the OAIC (oaic.gov.au) in Australia.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We'll post the updated version here with a revised "Last updated" date, and notify you of material changes.
